❚ It took Katie about four seconds to realize she was already lost.

[/color] She had JUST left the lab minutes ago and she already had managed to have no idea where she was. She thought she was on route one but she doubted it since she was currently surrounded by a rather lush field with small saplings planted everywhere. She held up her map up to the rather bright light that was pouring down from the clear skies. After a couple of moments of trying to piece together where she was she placed her finger on the small town she was just in. She could still see the top of the White lab in the close distance so she guessed she was on Route one. Katie sighed happily as she folded the map neatly and slide it into it's holder before putting it into her bag. She was surprised she had got her bearings of where she was so quickly. Usually she roamed around thinking she was in the right place when in actuality she was way off, it was nice to know that she could be right for once!

Katie paused for a moment to wipe a bead of sweat off of her forehead. It was surprisingly warm for winter! Sure, it wasn't hot for winter but with the walking she was doing she was almost 100% positive she would be drenched in sweat by the time she reached the next town. Katie took a moment to catch her breath to try and make sure she wouldn't die of exhaustion. She examined one of the new trees, it was evident that they were REALLY new trees as they were almost sickly looking because they were so thin. Mind you it was the winter and she doubted a lot of them would survive to see the Spring. It was probably why the field had so many saplings without any real trees around. She gave a small sigh as she continued her long trek. She hadn't even walked that long before she had decided she needed to introduce herself to her new partner! She didn't hesitate to grab the small pokeball attached to her right hip.

She quickly pushed the smooth white button, instantaneously the small ball expanded to the perfect size to fit in the gentle curve of her palm. She didn't even flinch as she threw the ball as high as she could, she was pretty sure that she might pull a muscle if she ever threw the Pokeball like that again. Lesson learned, gentle tosses are nice, chucking.... not so nice. As the blindingly bright red light emerge from the ball in a concentrated beam of light it quickly found a coarse towards the ground within seconds. Katie was rubbing her shoulder slightly in awe mixed with a pure excitement that made her want to run all the way to the next town. The intense light pooled together and slowly, the silouette of a small pokemon started to form. Katie couldn't help but yelp with joy as the small blue, black and yellow pokemon was blinking up at her with large eyes.

The round pair of yellow eyes blinked a couple more times before scanning his surroundings. He turned in a slow circle trying to gain his bearings but after a couple full rotations he flopped onto his back in defeat. He would go wherever anyway with his trainer. Trainer? After a couple moments of lying on the ground the small pokemon leaped onto his feet in surprise. He had a Trainer now! He hurriedly ran over to the purple haired girl and cuddled her leg.

At first Katie didn't really know what to do. The pokemon appeared as lost as her a couple moments ago but after it had laid on its back it seemed fine. She tried not to be a little disappointed when it lounging in the sun instead of say hi to his new partner. Katie glanced downward with a slowly diminishing smile when the pokemon leapt to its feet and pretty much charged at the un-expecting girl. Katie had fallen over as she quickly lost her balance from the small nudge the pokemon had given her. She toppled over to the ground and landed with a soft thud, just missing a small sapling. It was when the small pokemon was cooing quite loudly that Katie new this was going to be a great adventure. She glanced down at her pokemon with pure bliss when he was holding a small pencil crayon in his mouth. She propped her head to the side, it must have fallen out of her bag when she had fallen over. She plucked the small pencil crayon out of his mouth and added a small pat of thanks. She examined the pencil crayon to see if it had been damaged.

Ebony

Such a cool name for a color. Katie paused, she looked up at her shinx and then back at the pencil crayon. "What if we call you Ebony?" In case the fact that the newly named pokemon was running in circles wasn't a good enough confirmation he even gave off small sparks every now and then. Katie was sure to try and avoid then but she was 90% positive that her hair was standing straight up. Way to go, pick an electric pokemon.... Glancing at the pokemon she knew it was worth the millions of bad hair days to come.

This here poochyena was just sitting nibbling on a twig of a sapling, when a girl with purple came stumbling in. Hey! This was his sapling field! Everyone respected him here! Well...at least he did. And he was the only one here! As long as he knew... Well, anyways, what's a purple-haired trainer doing here anyways? She should be on route one. Silly people. Well, as long as she was here, this here Poochyena had to chase her out! He started to bark, but then, she chucked a pokeball high in the air! Then, out came a shinx. Now it was time to fight! "HEY! WHAT'RE YOU DOING HERE! GO TO ROUTE ONE!" Poochyena ran up to the shinx and tackled it with it's head, then growl playfully. It was a ruse, but it might have worked!

Poochyena used Headbutt and growl!

❚ Katie let out a small yelp as the dark pokemon leapt from what felt like no where!

[/color] Katie, not knowing what to do just noticed this was her first pokemon battle. It was kind of weird to think as the pokemon came charging at Ebony but she couldn't help but be exited. She swallowed as the pokemon came dangerously close to her little Shinx. Katie did the only thing she could think of in her current situation. "Quick Ebony! Dodge it!" But it was no use, she had waited to long to command her Shinx which jumped to one side trying to miss the oncoming attack but was clipped in his hind leg. He let out a small yelp of pain as he hit the ground. Ebony shook slightly but got up rather quickly. He was just cluing in what was happening.

He let out a small bark as gave his best death glare at the Poochyena. It was then that Ebony realized the Pokemon was growling at him. He couldn't help but feel a little bit scared of it. He tried to man up and get ready for his attack but he knew he wouldn't be able to attack it with full force even if he wanted to. The other pokemon was just to scary. Katie on the other hand was indiffrent as the other Pokemon growled. This thing was going down. She normally would have flipped open her pokedex to find out what it was but she didn't care. It HAD to go down now.

Katie took a deep breath as she pointed a finger at the other Pokemon. "EBONY! USE LEER!" She barked out at her pokemon. It didn't take long for her Shinx to give the other pokemon of sheer determination. Shinx knew he would win. His gaze flashed red for a moment, he wasn't really sure if it was effective or if it even worked but he didn't hesitate to start to run forward at the pokemon as she heard Katie open her mouth once more.

"QUICK! Follow with Scratch!" Needless to say Ebony had launched himself into the air with his claws extended. He couldn't help but let out a small battle cry. "WE WILL GO WHEVER WE WANT MUTT!" Shinx had no idea if he would actually hit the other pokemon but the Poocheyena still scared him a little bit. He wasn't sure if he was actually able to hit him with as much force as he wanted to. Hopefully he would hit the stupid mutt! Who was he to yell at them! They were on route one! No one would try and Confuse him and his trainer!
